Alaska Airlines, Continental
Airlines and Southwest Airlines all have begun to install
winglets -- vertical fins -- on their planes to reduce wind drag
and cut the amount of fuel burned by 3 percent.
The Sri Lanka Convention
Bureau won the Green Exhibitor Award given by IMEX at its
annual Worldwide Exhibition for Incentive Travel, Meetings &
Events held in Frankfurt, Germany, in May. The award, the first of
its kind for IMEX, honors strong environmental values as
demonstrated by a booth at the event. Sri Lanka’s stand was made
from nontoxic recycled materials and lit by low-voltage
lighting.
The Boulders Resort &
Golden Door Spa in Scottsdale, Ariz., said its large-scale
organic garden will reap its first bounty this fall, which will go
directly to supply the resort’s kitchens.
The Long Beach Convention
Center in California is installing 4,000 solar panels on
its roof. Center executives estimate the panels will save up to 705
kilowatts of energy per year, or $7,800.
