Searching iTunes and other podcast
databases is like flipping through an encyclopedia: You
can find something about any topic you enjoy, including, of course,
meeting planning.
One of the most prolific podcasters is
David Martin, host of PlanIt Podcast (www.planitpodcast.com), where, as of this March, 89
recorded interviews with leaders in the meetings industry were
stacked up in the archives. Martin also is CEO of Get It Planet, an
online event-management website.
The podcast offered by Mike McAllen,
CEO of Grass Shack Events and Media, is a labor of love. Found at
www.podshackradio.com are about 20
episodes of McAllen speaking with experts such as Bill Flagg,
president of
RegOnline, and Dean Johnsen, co-executive producer of Real Time
with Bill Maher. “I’m trying to get to know the people behind
the scenes at an event,” McAllen says.
New to the podcast world is Meetings
Radio (www.meetingsradio.com). Host Bill Wulff,
above, started the daily online morning show so planners could
begin their workday with him and a cup of coffee, but listeners
told him they’d rather download the show. After a January test
drive, the Meetings Radio podcast launched in late February.
The change is a welcome one for the
gregarious host. “Meetings Radio was starting to take over,” admits
Wulff, whose day job is president of Above the Rim Events in Fort
Lee, N.J. “If we were on the road, it was hard to
keep up. Now we’re doing one a week, and people can listen to it
when they want it.”
