Meetings & Conventions: Short Cuts December 1999

December 1999
Short
Cuts:On the SpotHow sick are you of the millennium?“The big millennium issue, I guess, is Y2K, but I tend
to ignore most of it. The businesses that we’re dealing with are
much bigger than we are, and if they’re not concerned with it, then
why should I be?”
M. Paige Marmorino
Meetings & Database Manager
American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy
Alexandria, Va.
“The millennium doesn’t even begin until next year, and
it’s already overdone. I haven’t heard anything about the
millennium that shocks me, though. We are such a marketing-oriented
country, so I guess it’s smart to use that as a promotional theme.
Someone gave me a millennium clock that has been counting down
since I got it. I hope the face peels off so I can use it next
year. If not, I guess I’ll have to trash it.”
Thomas McLean
Executive Director, Programs
USA Track & Field
Indianapolis
“Actually, I’m not sick of it yet. We’ve used a ‘Millennium
Madness’ theme for our annual events this year both for the
attorneys and the paralegals and legal assistants and it’s been
very successful. We’re already working on a theme for next year’s
events, though, and it will definitely change.”
