Short Cuts:
New Life for a Landmark L.A. Theater
Polishing a Beaux Arts Gem

Fresh from a multimillion- dollar restoration and renovation
project, the historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles (www.laorpheum.com) is
open again and trolling for group business. While the 1926 Beaux
Arts venue now features modern comforts such as air conditioning,
wheelchair accessibility and a cutting-edge audiovisual system, its
rich decor remains intact and grander than ever. Seventy-five years
of grime have been stripped from the lobby’s famous marble walls,
and its two 12-foot-tall crystal and bronze chandeliers now tower
over 2,000 new, lavishly upholstered seats.
