Getting physical:
Step class at the Cleveland Athletic Club
When it comes to
finding value-added options for day meetings, athletic clubs are
the ultimate money-saver, delivering a dizzying array of health and
fitness offerings guaranteed to soothe and rejuvenate the minds of
stressed attendees and recharge their physical batteries at least
until the next meeting.
At the Los Angeles Athletic Club (www.laac.com), which
features a 72-room hotel, nine meeting rooms and banquet space for
events of up to 700, attendees can hit the four squash courts, take
a Pilates or yoga class, or hit the 25-yard lap pool. “The nice
part is everything is under one roof,” says Esther Doss of member
services. “You can walk out of the meeting room and use the rest of
the facility.”
Aquatic kick-boxing is just one of the options at the
Downtown Athletic Club and Conference Center (www.downtownac.com) in Eugene, Ore. The center, which
features seven meeting rooms, offers classes in yoga, martial arts,
Pilates and tai chi. For a more cardio-intensive workout, run the
two-lane indoor rubber track, or head for the extensive lineup of
treadmill, rowing, cycling and climbing machines.
The Pacific Athletic Club (www.pacclub.com) in
Redwood Shores, Calif., features two meeting rooms and a 175-seat
dining room, plus a fully loaded 15,000-square-foot fitness center.
After testing out the six-lane lap pool, nine tennis courts and six
internationally certified squash courts, retreat to the Sanctuary,
the club’s full-service spa, for a few hours of sheer bliss.
Eight meeting rooms and a banquet room for 500 make up the
Cleveland Athletic Club (www.clevelandathleticclub.com), which features a full
line of Cybex machines, aerobics classes, volleyball and squash
courts, plus personal trainers to meet every need.
