On Air: Al Rickard, left,
interviews an association head
Now playing: Radio talk shows covering news and
issues in the meetings world. Up and running since last October,
Association Nation can be heard live in the Washington, D.C., area
Sunday mornings on WMET (1160 AM) and online any time at associationnation.com. The brainchild of Kevin Murphy,
who has spent much of his career in association management, the
program offers interviews with industry players in five- to
10-minute segments such as “Association Power and Politics,”
“Association Foresight” and “Your Meeting Matters.”
According to Murphy, “We consistently have between 10,000 and
13,000 people a week clicking in and listening to the various
segments.” The most popular segment on Association Nation is
“Communication Success Stories,” featuring interviews conducted by
host Al Rickard, CAE, president of Association Vision, a marketing
consulting firm in Chantilly, Va.
The online-only Meetings Radio (www.meetingsradio.com) network went live last month,
offering a daily headline program at 9 a.m. EST, followed by shows
such as Tuesday’s Job Talk with Dawn Penfold of New York City’s
Meetingjobs.com and Tech Talk on Thursdays, hosted by John Maddox,
CMP, of Boonton, N.J.-based technology consultancy Meetings IT.
“What really sets us apart is that the listener can get
involved,” says Meetings Radio producer/owner Bill Wulff, CMP, who
hosts What’s New in the Market on Mondays. “There’s a call-in line,
so planners can talk to other planners and be a part of the
show.”
