Meetings & Conventions: Short Cuts June 1999

June 1999
Short Cuts:WEB SITES WE LIKE
Healthwise. It's no alternative to live,
professional medical attention, but the Web is rich with insights
about illness and wellness. Start with former Surgeon General C.
Everett Koop's site (www.drkoop.com), with its wealth of
information on women's, men's and children's health; prescription
drugs, and more. Guidance from a well-respected source can be found
at the Mayo Clinic's Health Oasis (www.mayohealth.org). Visitors can
jump to one of nine specialties: Alzheimer's, cancer, children's
health, heart, medicine, men's health, nutrition, women's health,
and allergy and asthma. Nutrition news is the focus of the Center
for Science in the Public Interest (www.cspinet.org), which publishes
Nutrition Action Healthletter. An extensive (and free)
health assessment is available at Health Central (www.healthcentral.com).
Results fall under these headings: health, age and life expectancy;
greatest life risks; your good health habits; habits you could
change, and preventive care. Know someone who's not feeling well?
Send a get-well card from the Fat Cat Cafe (www.fatcatcafe.com/postoffice/cardrack15.html)
or Blue Mountain Arts (www1.bluemountain.com/eng/getwell/).
