Meetings & Conventions: Short Cuts August 2000

August 2000
Short Cuts:WEB SITES WE LIKE
When to worry. With viruses and computer hoaxes
threatening to clog e-mail routes, several Web sites have been set
up to let users know which attachments to stay away from and which
“true” stories are myths. The best we’ve seen is About.com’s Urban
Legends page (urbanlegends.about.com). Simple
and comprehensive, it covers viruses, chain-mail hoaxes and other
electronic rumors filtering into e-mailboxes around the world.
Another place to check is Ask Dr. D. Bunk (www.zdnet.com/zdhelp/filters/ehoax).
Global clock. Need to call Bolivia or
Bangladesh, France or Finland, Malaysia or Madagascar but don’t
know precisely what time it is there? Log on to the World Time
Server (www.worldtimeserver.com), and
click on the desired country to get the correct time anywhere on
the planet.
