From politics to pop
culture, new museums are bringing a new twist to the
display of historical artifacts. Whether you simply view the
collections or outright party amongst them, the following venues
are destined to be crowd pleasers.
Waxed eloquently:
Tussauds’ Lincoln
At waxworks emporium Madame
Tussauds Washington D.C. (madame-tussauds.com), which opened in October 2007 and
primarily celebrates political figures, groups of up to 100 people
can mingle with the lifelike likenesses of icons such as Winston
Churchill and Abraham Lincoln, or step inside an exact replica of
the Oval Office.

Museum-worthy:
Harley’s M-65 Leggero
from 1975
Visitors to Milwaukee’s
Harley-Davidson Museum (harley-davidson.com), to open this spring, will enjoy
more than 400 bikes on display, including Elvis Presley’s 1956
model. The museum features event space for 20 to 15,000.
Pop culture enthusiasts will want to
head to the Advertising Icon Museum (advertisingiconmuseum.com) in Kansas City, Mo.,
opening in fall 2008. Among the enduring American sales legends on
display are Betty Crocker, Chiquita Banana, the Maytag Repairman
and the Jolly Green Giant, accompanied by those hard-to-forget
jingles that helped make them so famous. Special events can be
arranged.
