Ancillary Fees Negotiable, Says CWT

Airline ancillary fees are negotiable, according to the latest report issued by the Carlson Wagonlit Travel Travel Management Institute. Among the top tips in "Mastering the Maze: a Practical Guide to Air and Ground Savings" is the travel management company's advice to negotiate a reduction or waiver of airline ancillary fees. These charges, such as baggage fees and on-board food and services, account for an estimated 6 percent of a company's air spend, notes the report, but only 55 percent of travel managers track how much is spent on such fees. The report also advises travel managers to negotiate a refund or back-end discount on fuel surcharges.
