Hilton Worldwide will launch "Meet With Purpose" next week, a branding of the company's philosophy with respect to community involvement and environmental and social sustainability. The program aligns these goals as they apply to meetings with Hilton's existing Travel With Purpose program. Meet With Purpose encompasses both "mindful meeting and mindful eating," as Hilton puts it, tying together environmentally responsible meeting practices with corporate social responsibility and locally sourced, healthy food and beverage. "The aspects of the program are nothing new," noted Rob Scypinksi, Hilton Worldwide senior vice president, industry relations, events and special projects. "But we want to tell people now about what we've been doing, and we want them to start thinking about it earlier in the meeting planning process." Reduced use of paper and plastic, food waste and energy consumption are just some examples of the mindful meeting practices; each property has unique approaches and solutions. Likewise, each works with local organizations to give back to the community. The lodging company currently is evaluating companywide initiatives that allow planners to offset the environmental impact of their meetings. Hilton also is revamping its LightStay Meeting Calculator for a February rebranding and relaunch. LightStay, which has been available since 2008, helps both hotel properties and planners determine the environmental impact of each meeting. The calculator can be found here.
