Construction has begun on the 125-room Aloft Coastline Hotel in downtown Wilmington, N.C., within walking distance of the Wilmington Convention Center, with a grand opening scheduled for mid-2020. Once complete, the property will be part of Wilmington's Convention District, bringing the areas total guest-room count nearly 900, all within easy walking distance of the convention center and connected by the two-mile Riverwalk. The district has seen $426.1 million in investments in the past five years.
The new Aloft will offer 10,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 7,000-square-foot ballroom, plus 3,000 square feet of additional meeting space in the adjacent 100-year-old Coastline Conference & Event Center, which will be renovated as part of the project. Among other amenities will be a full-service restaurant, a ground-level bar, a rooftop bar, an outdoor terrace, a fitness center and an outdoor pool. With its dramatic views of the Cape Fear Coast, the rooftop will be available for special events.

"All of the growth and development taking place within our Convention District is extremely exciting," said Kim Hufham, president and CEO of the Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Wilmington's riverfront setting combines the city's historic charm and rich past with modern design and new attractions, so we think the Aloft project is a particularly good fit for us. Our walkable downtown, easy access to more than 200 restaurants, shops and attractions, plus three nearby beaches, are the perfect assets for Wilmington to become a new destination possibility for meetings and events on the East Coast."

Wilmington's Convention District is anchored by the Wilmington Convention Center, the largest such facility on North Carolina's coast. The district also is home to a new 186-room Embassy Suites Wilmington Riverfront and the newly renovated 272-room Hotel Ballast, a Tapestry Collection property from Hilton, along with restaurants, shops and Pier 33, an entertainment venue that can host more than 4,000 people. Construction is scheduled to begin this year on North Waterfront Park, an outdoor performance space for events and concerts near the convention center.
