The 387-room El San Juan Hotel & Casino in Puerto Rico's Isla Verde district will temporarily close, beginning Aug. 15, for a head-to-toe renovation. The transformation, to finish in early 2017, will include upgrades to the guest rooms, pool area, nine restaurants and 15 bars, as well as spa and fitness facilities. The resort's 35,000 square feet of meeting and event space also will be refurbished. The landmark hotel, designed by Morris Lapidus and Max Borges, opened in 1957.

"El San Juan is truly a one-of-a-kind property that we look forward to revitalizing," said Andro Nodarse-León of León Mayer & Co., one of the owners and the asset manager of the resort. "The updates will pay homage to the historical status of this property as an iconic luxury lifestyle and entertainment resort, while incorporating a playfully elegant feeling to the modernized setting."
