The 1,048-room Fairmont Austin Hotel, the largest Fairmont yet, opened yesterday in Texas. The property connects to the Austin Convention Center via the $6 million Red River Canopy Walk.

In the hotel itself, groups will gather in more than 150,000 square feet of meeting space. The options include four ballrooms, among them the 31,100-square-foot Manchester Ballroom and the 26,100-square-foot Congressional Ballroom. On the seventh floor, a 21,000-square-foot pool and event deck is available for outdoor receptions of up to 1,300 guests.

The property's Fairmont Spa has nine treatment rooms, including two couple's massage rooms, a yoga/aerobics room, a full-service salon and a state-of-the-art fitness center. For dining, there are five eateries and lounges: Garrison, an upscale grill; Revue, with a more international flare; the Good Things coffee shop with snacks and other to-go food; Fulton, the lobby bar, which will offer shareable plates along with an extensive drinks menu; and Rules & Regs, a cocktail spot on the 7th floor with views from indoor and outdoor spaces.

Aside from offering access to the convention center, the Red River Canopy Walk also leads to Palm Park, which features five miles of new hiking and biking trails.
