Renovations have finished up at the 106,000-square-foot Benton Convention in Winston-Salem, N.C. About $20 million was spent on the upgrades.
As part of the project, an existing exhibit hall was turned into a multifunctional carpeted ballroom. In addition, significant structural, design and technology upgrades were made to the interior and exterior of the building, and breakout space made more open and flexible. The front facade was expanded to create more flexible prefunction space, and more windows and skylights were added.
The new designs incorporate historical touches from the city's arts, tobacco and textile roots. The facility now sports a sawtooth roofline, reclaimed wood accents and locally inspired original artwork, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows
Serving the downtown Benton Convention Center complex are the 315-room Marriott and 146-room Embassy Suites, which are connected to the facility by walkways.
