San Antonio Riverwalk

Why here?
Exciting developments are underway across the Lone Star State. While Houston hotels have renovated following last fall's hurricane, Arlington is transforming its convention center into an esports arena. Meanwhile, San Antonio keeps adding new reasons to visit its famed River Walk.

AROUND THE STATE
In Dallas, all 407 guest rooms at the Adolphus Hotel have been remodeled, as has its 24,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel's new City Hall Bistro serves cuisine inspired by Southern Europe.

The 378-room Omni Houston Hotel, which has been shuttered since Hurricane Harvey struck the city last year, is undergoing a $30 million renovation and will reopen on Nov. 1.

COMING SOON
The 350-room Westin Irving Convention Center Hotel at the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas is set to open on Dec. 17. The headquarters property will offer 16,000 square feet of meeting space.

CONSIDER MCKINNEY
North of Dallas and Plano sits McKinney, home to a large historic district and plenty of draws for small meetings.

New in town is the Station, once an auto-repair garage that has been transformed into a modern conference space steps from quaint McKinney Square.

For an afternoon of fun, the town has two 18-hole disc (aka Frisbee) golf courses. The Alex Clark Memorial layout is ideal for beginners, while the Towne Lake course is more challenging. Work with Visit McKinney to book an outing.

Serving a contemporary farm-to-table menu, Harvest Seasonal Kitchen offers dishes like the flank steak served this spring and is perfect for a group dinner. Together, the Great Room and the Cellar hold up to 50 people.

Team building takes a funny twist at the Comedy Arena.

Local hotels include a 187-room Sheraton, the 131-room Holiday Inn & Suites McKinney-Fairview and the boutique 45-room Grand Hotel, which features a 2,500-square-foot ballroom.

MAKE A SPLASH
A water-park resort with more than 200,000 square feet of meeting space is under construction north of Austin. The 1,000-room Kalahari Resorts Round Rock will feature three acres of outdoor pools, five restaurants, a spa and a 223,000-square-foot indoor water park that Kalahari claims will be the largest in the U.S.

ARLINGTON

Local Update

Ground was broken Nov. 1 on the flagship Live! by Loews, which will serve as the headquarters hotel for baseball's Texas Rangers. The $150 million, 302-room property, opening in 2019, will be part of a sports-and-entertainment complex and will sit between the Rangers' Globe Life Park and the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium. More than $1.25 billion worth of new development is now under construction in the Arlington Entertainment District, including the hotel and a new ballpark for the Rangers.

More than $10 million is being spent to convert the Arlington Convention Center into an esports arena. The facility will feature space for competition events, gaming, retail and social areas, VIP hospitality options, a broadcast studio, and team-training space. The transformation should be complete before year's end. According to Jon Hixon, vice president of sales for the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau, the CVB will continue to market and sell the Esports Stadium Arlington as a convention facility, and to that end improved A/V is being added to the mix.

The city offers free trolley service that stops at select hotels like the Crowne Plaza Suites and the DoubleTree by Hilton, and takes guests to attractions such as Globe Life Park (home of the Texas Rangers) and the Meadowbrook Park Golf Course.
