Characterized by live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, Savannah is overflowing with rich history, diverse venues, an ideal climate and the best of Southern hospitality. Work could begin on an expansion of the city's convention center in the new year, and a new JW Marriott hotel will open in February.
Venue Additions & Renovations
• Ground should be broken on an expansion of the Savannah Convention Center by summer 2020. Plans call for doubling the exhibit hall to 200,000 square feet and creating a new entrance with an all-glass facade. A 40,000-square-foot ballroom, outdoor space and 15 more meeting rooms (for a total of 28) also will be added. In the works, as well, is a new convention center hotel with at least 300 rooms.
• Phase one of the Plant Riverside District is expected to debut in early 2020. The $280 million, 4.5-acre development will feature 17,000 square feet of event space, a waterfront park, dining options and a monument honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Anchoring the development will be the 419-room JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District, currently scheduled to open in February 2020 with 28,898 square feet of meeting space, multiple dining options, a rooftop pool, a spa and a fitness center.
