Providence, R.I.

Rhode Island's capital is defined by a heady mix of cutting-edge meeting services and trendy dining spots surrounded by reminders of the Colonial history of New England.

The Rhode Island Convention Center's anchor, the 564-room Omni Providence, completed a $15 million renovation last October that redesigned guest rooms and public spaces; work on nearly 23,000 square feet of meeting space finished previously.

Another of the city's main meeting properties, the 272-room Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel, wraps up a redo of its 14,540 square feet of event space this month.

Up on Federal Hill, a thriving Italian quarter features reliably fresh and delicious dishes from staple Trattoria Zooma.
