The Bower Coronado, a 39-room boutique hotel on the tied island in San Diego Bay, opened for business this spring and now is available for events and buyouts. The luxury property stands on the site of the former Villa Capri by the Sea hotel, rebuilt from the ground up but for two neon signs from the former Capri that pay homage to the site's history. Pre-Capri, the site was home to a Japanese tea garden — which the Bower honors, as well, with lush landscaping around the estate's patios.

The boutique property, which is across the street from the iconic Hotel Del Coronado, has a residential feel: The lobby appears more like a common room than a hotel lobby, with a grand stone fireplace, custom furniture, unique art, a small courtyard, and a long table that serves as both a check-in desk or serving table for receptions. Guest rooms are outfitted with luxury fixtures and amenities, with products from local artisans; select rooms have small balconies that offer views of the island.

Rooftop bar and restaurant

Dive, which is said to be the first rooftop bar in Coronado, offers a midcentury modern feel with panoramic views of the region. The salvaged Villa Capri neon signs can be found here, along with a menu of classic and custom cocktails, and a selection of specialties that feature Baja cuisine and seafood. It is both a local scene and a respite for guests.

Made for custom events

The Bower offers full-floor buyout opportunities for groups, ideal for corporate off-sites or small events. Each floor offers 12-14 rooms, along with access to a lounge-style foyer.

Full property buyouts also are available and include all four floors of the property, as well as Dive, the rooftop bar, which can accommodate as many as 99 people. The lobby/living room area hosts receptions for up to 100 guests.
