Washington, D.C.-based Historic Hotels Worldwide added more than 44 historic hotels in 2016. Properties approved for induction into the prestigious registry range from 75 to 886 years old.
The 44 hotels represent more than 11 brands and collections and include properties from 11 countries, including 19 historic hotels in Mexico and five in New York City.
The oldest hotel inducted in 2016 was the 190-room San Clemente Palace Kempinski, left, set on a private island in Venice, Italy, which also houses the San Clemente Church, one of the oldest places of worship in Venice, dating from 1131.
