Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will open the 178-room Mason & Rook Hotel in Washington, D.C.'s 14th Street neighborhood tomorrow, April 28.
"Kimpton's Mason & Rook Hotel is proud to be a part of the vibrant and thriving 14th Street neighborhood, drawing visitors to explore this interesting area of the District," said general manager Donte Johnson. "From our unique amenities and locally curated programming to our warm hospitality and excellent service, every aspect of Mason & Rook embodies the essence of a modern D.C. lifestyle."
The property is a repurposing of a former apartment building and has large rooms, including 18 suites. The lobby features a high-styled living room with comfortable seating. Details throughout include luxe fabrics, eclectic artwork, refined millwork and richly textured finishes. The Premier Spa Suites at the corners of the hotel are like small apartments.
Executive chef Jonathan Dearden and lead bartender Sarah Rosner collaborated to create Radiator, a culinary-focused cocktail bar featuring an eclectic menu of small plates to complement the selection of curated whiskeys, unique spirits, classic cocktails, and a selection of local beers and wines. Outside, Radiator offers a 50-seat patio with a large fire pit and a shuffleboard court. A rooftop pool and lounge will be open from Memorial Day through Labor Day; drinks and light bites from Radiator will be served there, and the space is available for special events.
For guests staying in for the night on weekends, the hotel will offer bar-cart service, bringing craft cocktails to the rooms on request. Also planned are "game on" nights with the general manager, allowing guests to learn more about the hotel, neighborhood and the capital's hidden gems while playing games such as backgammon, chess, and life-sized versions of favorites like Jenga and Connect Four.
The Mason & Rook Hotel has 4,000 square feet of meeting space including the Exchange, a 1,700-square-foot ballroom with two onyx backlit skylights, and three smaller meeting rooms.
