Kimpton Announces New Hotel for Fort Worth

The project will repurpose a historical office building into the brand's third Texas property.

The XTO Energy building in Fort Worth, Texas, to be transformed into a Kimpton hotel opening in 2021.

Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants will be transforming the historical XTO Energy Headquarters building in Fort Worth, Texas, into a 232-room hotel, the brand's third in the state. Scheduled to open in spring 2021, the property will join the Pittman Hotel in Dallas, opening later this year, and the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt in Austin. A Kimpton property also is on track to open in Houston in 2022.

"Texas is a natural place to expand our brand," said Mike DeFrino, CEO of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. "Adding Fort Worth to our portfolio, alongside Austin and Dallas, is vital to our growth in the Southwest. Development Services Group is the ideal partner to help bring Kimpton to this part of the state and to the historically rich, energetic and exciting community of Fort Worth."

Plans for the Fort Worth hotel include a signature Italian restaurant, 10,000 square feet of meeting space with a two-story grand ballroom, and a Penthouse Sky Bar with expansive city views. Guests can expect Kimpton's signature amenities, such as the evening social hour, morning coffee service and complimentary bicycles for exploring the area.

The nearly century-old building is in downtown's central business district, near the Fort Worth Convention Center, the Sundance Square entertainment and retail district and Bass Performance Hall. Constructed as the Farmers and Mechanics National Bank headquarters in 1921, it was once recognized as the tallest structure west of the Mississippi River. XTO Energy carefully restored the building to its original design in 2010.
