The design for the New Zealand International Convention Centre in Auckland has been finalized. The project received support this past December from Tourism New Zealand, but a solid timeline for the project, which will include a new 300-room hotel, has yet to be set. Conventions and Incentives New Zealand's chief executive, Sue Sullivan, said the NZICC design has a distinctive New Zealand flavor. "It is inviting, accessible and open, bringing the outside in and giving delegates a real sense they are part of Auckland life," she noted in a statement. "It won't be a closed box; the transparency of the design also allows Aucklanders to look inside." The facility will be six times larger than Auckland's current center and will accommodate nearly 3,000 people.
