On August 23, the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles offered a sneak peak at their new 17,500-square-foot Herscher Hall and Guerin Pavilion. This is the fourth and final expansion project for the center, which first opened to the public in 1996 and now offers a total of 55,000 square feet of event space that can accommodate groups of up to 1,200.
The new building was designed-as was the rest of the campus-by famed architect Moshe Safdie. It includes a 9,000-square-foot ballroom with nearly 100 custom-designed skylights embedded in an arched roof that is supported by Oregon Douglas Fir beams. The room also features glass doors that open onto a cascading garden featuring 30 Japanese maple trees. Also included are breakout rooms, meeting rooms and an on-site kitchen.
The new addition is scheduled to be inaugurated on October 19 and will be ready to host events starting in November.
