IMEX's First Association Leadership Forum Deemed a Success

IMEX First Association Leadership Forum

A new learning opportunity for senior-level leaders debuted at IMEX America, held at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas in October. Created in conjunction with the American Society of Association Executives, the inaugural Association Leadership Forum provided a look at topics such as governance, talent management, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, global management and member engagement. The event was attended by 85 CEOs, COOs, executive directors, secretaries general, chairs and board members.

"Attendees told us that it was the best association forum we have ever hosted," said ASAE president and CEO John H. Graham, IV, FASAE, CAE. "This year, we incorporated fast-paced, quick-learning segments by high-level experts, and our attendees raved about the ideas and takeaways they can apply in their organizations."

IMEX officials were very happy with the turnout and plan to repeat the program on IMEX America's Smart Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, before the larger event opens on Oct. 16, all at the Sands.

"The topics really resonated, particularly Shawn Boynes' presentation on high-performing boards, and Abe Eshkenazi's  [on attracting younger members]," said Natasha Richards, advocacy and industry-relations manager for the IMEX Group. "Many of the attendees knew each other, so there was a good deal of networking going on as well as card-swapping for new contacts. Attendees were able to carry on their conversations afterward at the Association Evening reception, to which they had all been invited."

Lori Anderson, president and CEO of the International Sign Association, also presented a session on talent management.
