NEW PROMOTION EFFORTS
The city’s group sales department has changed its name to the
Monterey Convention Authority to better reflect its mission, while
the Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau says it is
ramping up its efforts to promote the city’s group appeal. In
related news, the Hyatt Regency Monterey received $19 million for a
complete overhaul, the Monterey Marriott Hotel added a day spa, and
the Doubletree Hotel Monterey finished fixing up all guest rooms
and meeting space.

FALL GROUNDBREAKING
The bulldozers will be out in full force on Oct. 23 to begin work
on the new Tacoma Convention & Trade Centre, which will offer
73,000 square feet of exhibit and meeting space and is expected to
debut in the fall of 2004. A 160-room Marriott by Courtyard is
being built next door. Around town, the city opened its new Museum
of Glass this past July and will debut the new Pioneer Museum of
Motorcycles & Conference Center next fall.
