NEW CENTER PLANNED
Missouri-Columbia, equidistant from St. Louis and Kansas City, is
looking for an independent developer to build a new hotel and
convention center on the southeast corner of the campus. Proceeds
from the convention center would be used to jump-start a campaign
for an adjacent performing arts center. In other Columbia news, a
new 80-room Candlewood Suites was scheduled to be open for business
by the end of March.

PROJECT GETS CITY’S OK
The city’s Zoning Commission approved in late February a
development project that has been on the books for some time. The
Fan Pier waterfront mixed-use complex of nine buildings including a
325-room hotel now awaits only a state license. The site,
controlled by the Pritzker family of Hyatt fame, was originally to
feature two hotels but now will have 625 residential units, office
and retail space and will house the Institute of Contemporary
Art.
