CITY BEATPhoenix
.........................
GROWTH AHEAD
This Southwest city is not lacking in major projects. First, an
800-room hotel is planned for a spring 2009 opening, with Westin
and Marriott in the running. The hotel is part of the Phoenix Civic
Plaza Convention Center renovation that will expand the venue’s
221,000 square feet of exhibit space to 600,000. In addition,
Embassy Suites is considering building a 300-room property.
Rosemont, Ill.

EVEN MORE SPACE
An expansion of the Rosemont Conference Center is adding 22 meeting
rooms to the venue, which is adjacent to the 840,000-square-foot
Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. The project, to wrap up next
July, brings the conference center’s meeting space to 92,000 square
feet. In other news, Park Place Entertainment submitted a bid last
month to build a new Caesars casino in place of the bankrupt
Emerald Casino. The venue would house 40,000 square feet of gaming
space and four restaurants.
