Mile high and mile long? Denver airport gets bigger.
Growing and changing for years, the Mile High City shows no
signs of slowing down. The expansion of the Colorado Convention
Center, which will double exhibit space to 594,000 square feet, is
scheduled to open in December 2004. Facilitating that work was the
April razing of the 19-year-old Terracentre, which will be replaced
by a 5,000-seat auditorium.
This spring, the city took over the development of a
headquarters hotel, which had stalled due to finance issues. Last
month, Mayor Wellington Webb announced that Hyatt will manage the
1,100-room property, which is set to open by early 2006.
At the eight-year-old Denver International Airport, 16 new gates
are slated to be added by 2004.
