Carlson Companies has agreed to sell Carlson Marketing, one of the largest global incentive, meeting and event firms, to Groupe Aeroplan, a loyalty marketing firm based in Canada, for US$175.3 million. The acquisition, which is subject to customary closing conditions and antitrust approvals in the United States and Canada, should be finalized this month.

Failed Contract negotiations between union hotel workers and several San Francisco hotels have resulted in several work stoppages, including temporary walkouts at the Grand Hyatt Union Square and the Palace Hotel. Key issues are affordable health care and retiree coverage.

Susan Gurley, executive director of the Association of Corporate Travel Executives, stepped down on Dec. 1. Deputy executive director Megan Costello will serve as interim director until the board finds a replacement.

Jack Ferguson,
currently executive vice president of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, will become president and CEO when Tom Muldoon steps down on Dec. 31, 2010.
