Meetings & Conventions: Incentive News

Products Expo Moves to Vegas
The Promotional Products Association
International Expo, which had been held at the Dallas Convention
Center since 1976, has tossed over the Big D for a new venue, the
Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The Nevada property
is currently building a 1.8 million-square-foot convention center,
set to open in January.
The show, which attracts 20,000 buyers and exhibitors of
promotional products and premiums and uses 350,000 square feet of
exhibit space, will be held in the new center Jan. 13-17, 2003.
According to Steve Slagle, CAE, president of the sponsoring
Promotional Products Association in Irving, Texas, the decision to
move to Las Vegas was based on members wanting a “more exciting”
destination than Dallas.
Also, the new venue is more cost-effective, he said, with room
rates as low as $89 per night. Another plus is the convenience of
housing participants in three properties Mandalay Bay and the
nearby Excalibur and Luxor casino hotels rather than the 20
properties the association needed in Dallas.
