The Scarlett Hotel Group, based in Chicago and Nashville, has purchased the former Wyndham San Antonio River Walk as part of a joint venture with Trailbreak Partners of Denver, with a $50 million plan to transform the property into a luxury 390-room InterContinental hotel, to open in early 2023.
"Turning this property into a luxury hotel is an amazing opportunity for us to contribute to the city of San Antonio," said Zio Pekovic, principal and cofounder of SHG. "San Antonio has been ranked within the top three cities for conferences for many years, and we’re proud to bring a luxury hotel brand like InterContinental into the central business district, minutes from the Henry B. González Convention Center."
On the River Walk in the heart of the Texas city’s downtown, the hotel originally opened as an office building in 1958. The project will refurbish the property's 40,000 square feet of meeting space, add new food-and-beverage options, and create a luxurious rooftop pool oasis with downtown views. The new hotel will have direct access to the River Walk and a river-taxi landing area.
The new InterContinental will be the first of the brand in San Antonio and will be positioned to cater to the city’s strong convention and business travel market. Full details on its amenities and dining establishments to come.
