Kinney SLO Hotel Rebrands as the Wayfarer San Luis Obispo

The college-themed boutique property is the second Wayfarer hotel in California.

Wayfarer San Luis Obispo Lobby

The former Kinney SLO has completed its transformation into the Wayfarer San Luis Obispo, the second hotel to bear the Wayfarer name following the brand's 2020 debut in downtown Los Angeles. The 100-room boutique property on California's Central Coast is near the San Luis Obispo airport and is less than one mile from downtown and the Cal Poly SLO campus.

The hotel has a college-inspired design as a nod to its proximity to the university, a theme that's reflected in the room types and some naming conventions: Dean's suite, Professor's suite, and Campus king and queen.

The new on-site restaurant, Schoolyard, serves elevated pub fare, such as smash burgers, boozy milkshakes and local craft beers. The venue features more than a dozen TVs tuned to sporting events. On weekends the restaurant serves brunch, where "hangover burgers" meet Bloody Marys and mimosas.

The newly rebranded hotel has 2,000 square feet of meeting space, spread across two venues: the Library, which accommodates up to 100 attendees, and the Gallery, a 60-person venue that can be expanded to include the adjoining private patio.

Also on-site are a heated pool, a fitness center with Peloton bikes, an outdoor patio with firepits and complimentary bike rentals. Trivia nights happen weekly. Other activities, such as hiking, sunbathing and swimming, are accessed easily from the hotel.
