Coffee With&Fred Bari
Until six months ago, Fred Bari worked exclusively in
insurance. The 26-year veteran broker is now a planner for Erotica
USA, a consumer show organized by New York City-based Customized
Worldwide Entertainment. Erotica recently had its first stateside
show at New York City’s Jacob Javits center, which, due to the
nature of the event, attracted significant press
attention.
How did you get the job as Erotica USA’s
planner?
My partner had successfully planned the expo in England and wanted
to know if I was interested in bringing it here. The time was right
to bring a classier adult show to the public.
What surprised you most about being a meeting
planner?
The unbelievable amount of work it takes. Finding a venue for a
show like this outside of Vegas is tough.
How are you dealing with the stress?
The same way I always did: (laughs) I’m drinking
heavily.
If you could pick a celebrity planning partner,
who would it be and why?
Donald Trump. He’s got an unerring eye for detail, and he’s a
tireless worker.
This is an off-color show. Any amusing
anecdotes?
I planned the fetish party with this dominatrix, the Baroness. She
can take a cigarette out of your mouth with a bullwhip from 12 feet
away. Discussing acceptable activities for off-site venues was
rather amusing.
Was anything she suggested out of the
question?
Without a doubt.
