The U.S. General Services Administration has issued new federal per diem reimbursement and lodging rates for fiscal year 2023, raising the lodging rate by $2 a night. Beginning Oct. 1, all federal agencies will use these rates to reimburse employees for business travel.

The standard lodging rate for the continental United States, which is calculated based on average daily rate, will increase from $96 to $98. There are 316 nonstandard areas for the coming fiscal year that will have higher rates, which can be found using the GSA per diem calculator. Meals and incidental-expense reimbursement tiers will remain unchanged, at $59 to $79, with the standard M&IE remaining at $59. As a result, the total standard per diem rate for FY 2023 is $157.

No locations have been added to the list of nonstandard areas for FY 2023, although there are three that currently are NSAs but will be classified as standard in 2023: Cromwell/Old Saybrook, Conn.; El Paso, Texas; and Rock Springs, Wyo.
