Jim Smither, who has been president of the Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau in Alabama for 21 years, has announced plans to retire, according to press reports. John Oros, currently the executive vice president and COO of the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau in Tennessee, will take Smither's spot in Birmingham on Aug. 1.
