Los Angeles City Administrative Officer Recommends AEG Manage and Operate Convention Center

Los Angeles City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana has recommended that Anschutz Entertainment Group manage and operate the Los Angeles Convention Center, said Santana in a statement.

The recommendation is based on a decision reached by an independent panel consisting of economic development, entertainment, labor and public service backgrounds, said Santana.

“We are thrilled to have been selected to manage and operate the Los Angeles Convention Center,” said AEG President and CEO Dan Beckerman. “We look forward to completing a contract so we can begin working with the city to improve the performance of the Los Angeles Convention Center through upgrades in services, client interactions and bookings. This opportunity is of the highest importance to AEG, and we are committed to dedicating the time and resources needed to bring the biggest and most important conventions to Los Angeles.”

Besides AEG, SMG is the only other company that submitted a proposal for the bid.

According to Santana's statement, the panel based its decision on four factors: qualifications and experience, management team, approach and methodology and fee proposal.

"The AEG proposal presents an enhanced, cost-effective and unique experience for all convention center visitors. It is anticipated that this matter will be considered before the City Council within the next month and that an agreement will be executed by the end of this summer," said Santana.
