Walt Disney World's Pandora - The World of Avatar debuted this weekend at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The new land, which transports guests to the mysterious planet of Pandora immortalized in the film "Avatar," features two attractions: Na'vi River Journey, a boat ride through the bioluminescent world of Pandora (see photo), and Flight of Passage, a thrilling virtual-reality ride that lets riders "fly" on the back of a "banshee."
Other highlights of Pandora include Swotu Wayä ("Sacred Place of Song"), where guests can interact with a collection of instruments fashioned by the Na'vi (the inhabitants of Pandora) that respond with music and light; the Na'vi Translator device helps visitors learn Na'vi words. The land is particularly magical at night, when Pandora's bioluminescent plants, rocks and walkways light up in gorgeous color.
Also debuting this weekend at Walt Disney World was the Music of Pixar Live! A Symphony of Characters at the Theater of the Stars at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The 45-minute performance is a mashup of Pixar's most memorable music played by a live orchestra, a video montage of Pixar films and special appearances by Pixar characters including Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, Mike and Sully.
Other new attractions -- including the gorgeous new fireworks and projection show "Happily Ever After" at the Magic Kingdom (see the video, below), and another nighttime show, "The Rivers of Light" at Animal Kingdom, combining live performance, floating set pieces, a soaring musical score, fountains, and more in a celebration of animals and nature -- are highlights of Walt Disney World's new summer offerings.
