To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the Sheraton Boston Hotel has completed a $100 million makeover. The property occupies a prime location in the Back Bay neighborhood, overlooking the Charles River, and is connected directly to the Hynes Convention Center

The top-to-bottom renovation, which wrapped up in September, included updates to all 810 guest rooms and the hotel's 70,000 square feet of meeting space. The public areas, the pool deck, the all-day market and the signature restaurant also were refreshed.

"For more than 60 years, Sheraton Boston has been a leader in the community and one of the skyline's most recognized landmarks," said Dan Kakabeeke, general manager of the Sheraton Boston. "Over the decades, the hotel has evolved into a space for connection — a warm, inviting location where people naturally come together for meetings and events, celebrations and leisure time. This renovation honors our legacy while reimagining every area to help guests feel comfortable and fully present, so they can effortlessly enjoy all that Boston has to offer."

Intentional gatherings

The hotel's 70,000 square feet of event space includes five ballrooms and numerous breakout rooms. In addition, the Sheraton Boston has redesigned one of its guest suites in a '60s style as a nod to its anniversary. The suite, which is outfitted with a record player and retro furnishings, is available for small-group rentals, such as a cocktail hour or a networking event.

On the first floor, the lobby area has been transformed to serve as a space for socializing and gathering. Community tables have been added, along with flexible private rooms dubbed "studios" that groups, guests and even locals can book for impromptu meetings or creative sessions.

According to a spokesperson for the Sheraton Boston, the hotel's philosophy is to "make guests feel like locals and locals feel like guests." This is inspired by the new Gatherings by Sheraton initiative, which aims to create moments of connection for guests and locals, and highlight the stories and culture of the community.

Per this initiative, the Sheraton Boston will host activities each week. Most will be smaller events, such as a pop-up library or a headshot lounge in one of the studio spaces. One large gathering will occur per quarter; for instance, a floral mannequin installation will be held in November in partnership with the Fleurs de Villes flower show.

Hard-to-beat location

Adding to the property's appeal is its connected campus. Nicknamed the 3-2-1 experience, the Sheraton is one of three Marriott properties connected to two indoor malls and the convention center. Together, the hotels offer more than 2,700 guest rooms within walking distance of the Hynes's 176,000 square feet of exhibit space. Attendees also have access to more than 135 shops across the Prudential Center and the Copley Place Shopping Mall. The entire campus is climate-controlled at 72 degrees year round.
