The 284-room Davenport Hotel, previously known as the Historic Davenport in Spokane, Wash., has unveiled its upgraded lobby. The renovation preserves the Pacific Northwest hotel’s historical design elements, while debuting a new lobby bar as well as the Emporium store and coffee bar.
The Davenport Hotel is marking its 110th anniversary this year with its largest investment since reopening in 2002. "The freshly renovated lobby reflects our commitment to blending timeless elegance with contemporary comforts," said Melissa Green, the new vice president and area managing director for Davenport Hotels. "These immersive gathering spaces are designed for our guests and locals to come together. The new lobby bar and Emporium elevate the guest experience, while continuing to preserve the heart of our historic hotel."
Set in the center of the hotel’s Spanish architecture–inspired lobby, the upgraded bar was designed around the space's original light posts and features more than 50 seats. The menu honors the Davenport Hotel’s 1920s Prohibition heritage, such as its trademark Martini cocktail, prepared extra dirty with signature homemade hand-stuffed blue cheese olives, and light bites, including Dungeness Crab Deviled Eggs, Oysters Rockefeller and Two RR Ranch Beef Sliders.
Emporium of treats
The renovations also mark the much-anticipated opening of the Davenport Hotel’s Emporium, a specialty retail space and cafe featuring a custom marble slab where guests can view demonstrations of the hotel’s famous Davenport Peanut Brittle, hand-made fresh daily by the hotel’s confectionary team. Locally made treats, such as house-made Peanut Brittle ice cream, merchandise, sundries and a curated selection of local goods are available for purchase. Grab-and-go items also are on hand, including a huckleberry cinnamon roll, homemade peanut brittle "Snickers" tarts, Davenport Crab Louie roll and hand-crafted artisanal sandwiches. The Emporium's coffee bar serves signature drinks, and café seating has been included for those who want to take in the hotel’s atmosphere.
The Emporium’s design is a modern approach to Art Deco shapes with a color palette that celebrates the hotel’s history, from Emporium-green tiled floors and touches to soft wood interiors. The space also pays homage to Spokane’s trade culture with motifs inspired by traditional export marks.
Beyond the lobby, the Davenport Hotel offers 26,600 square feet of meeting space, world-class dining at the Palm Court Grill, drinks at the Jazz Age-inspired Peacock Room Lounge, and relaxing treatments at the Davenport Spa. Additional amenities include a 24-hour fitness center and a heated indoor pool.
