“I believe in providing a
spirited environment in which associates can succeed.”
Steve Vissotzky, general manager of the
Hyatt Regency Dallas, was the recipient of Hyatt Hotels &
Resorts’ 2006 Donald N. Pritzker Award of Excellence, an accolade
that honors the chain’s most outstanding GMs. Prior to arriving in
Dallas, Vissotzky managed Hyatt properties in Miami and Cambridge,
Mass. The Hyatt Regency Dallas features 1,122 rooms and 160,000
square feet of function space.
Why do you think you won the
Pritzker award? It was for years of work -- 28 to be
exact -- my entire career. What I’m most proud of is being involved
in people’s careers. I’ve learned that if you provide an
environment in which employees and managers can enthusiastically
dedicate themselves to the art of service, wonderful experiences
occur. And 2006 was the best year in the history of the Hyatt
Regency Dallas in terms of revenue, profit and service scores. I am
very proud of this hotel and each of our 600-plus associates.
How would you describe your
management style? I believe in providing a spirited
environment in which associates can succeed. I encourage managers
to become active in directing their own business.
What has been the key to your
professional success? My sense of humor and competitive
nature. I’m very team-oriented and truly believe in surrounding
myself with talented people.
If you weren’t a GM, what would
you do? I’d be an artist. Architecture or design takes a
close second.
