New Meetings Complex
The 603-room Adam’s Mark Hotel, acquired by the Noble Investment Group in late April, will undergo a $25 million redevelopment and become two properties: a 150-room Embassy Suites Hotel and a 316-room Marriott Hotel with 70,000 square feet of meeting space. Noble also will assume management of the city-owned Benton Convention Center on July 1; the company plans to upgrade the center and operate it and the two hotels as one meeting complex.
Spokane, Wash.
Expansion Planned
Plans for expansion of the Spokane Convention Center have been finalized. The $76 million project, scheduled to break ground next month, includes a new 100,000-square-foot exhibit hall, 20,000 square feet of ballroom space, 24,000 square feet of meeting space and up to 1,200 new parking spaces. Plus, the existing center will be reconfigured. The entire project is scheduled to finish by June 2007.
CA, San Jose
An $8.5 million renovation of the landmark Hotel Montgomery, closed
since the 1960s, wraps this month. Touch-ups include installing
modern A/V equipment in two meeting spaces the 40-seat Western
Pacific Room and the 30-seat Southern Pacific room. The hotel’s
lush courtyard reception area holds up to 150 people, and the
Paragon private dining room seats 36.
MA, Boston
May saw the unveiling of $34 million worth of renovations to the
Fairmont Copley Plaza. The property has revamped its guest rooms
and added wireless Internet access to the rooms and in the
Fairmont’s 21,000 square feet of meeting space.
MA, Hyannis
The 224-room Sheraton Hyannis Resort on Cape Cod has been reflagged
the Four Points by Sheraton Hyannis Resort after recent guest room
and lobby renovations. On 52 acres, the resort offers 30,000 square
feet of meeting space, including a 12,000-square-foot grand
ballroom built to hold 900 people.
The broadmoor in Colorado Springs unveiled a $3.5 million
renovation of its spa in April. The 700-room property chose famed
spa architect TAG Gaylean to revamp the 43,000-square-foot wellness
facility with a more elegant decor. Also new are amenities such as
the hydrotherapeutic serenity shower, designed to do the work of an

MI, Ann Arbor
The former Sheraton Inn was reflagged the Four Points by Sheraton
Ann Arbor in April. The 197-room property offers 13,500 square feet
of meeting space in 15 meeting rooms, plus a 6,300-square-foot
ballroom.
PA, Blue Bell
The 116-room Normandy Farm Inn & Conference Center opened in
April, complete with a restaurant and a cooking school run by
popular celebrity chef Jim Coleman. The property offers 30,000
square feet of convention space in 17 meeting rooms, all outfitted
with wireless Internet access and new ergonomic seating.
TN, Memphis
The Memphis Marriott Downtown unveiled an ambitious expansion in
early June with the addition of a 14-story, $14 million tower. The
new structure elevates the guest room count from 400 to 600 and
adds 5,100 square feet of meeting space to the property’s previous
13,000. An additional 300,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit
space is available at the adjacent (and recently expanded) Memphis
Cook Convention Center.
WA, Redmond
About 14 miles east of downtown Seattle, the city of Redmond
celebrates the opening of its first full-service hotel this month
the 262-room Redmond Marriott Town Center. Included in the
property’s 10,000 square feet of meeting space is a
5,824-square-foot ballroom, which is divisible into four smaller
meeting spaces.
