Coffee With&Michael Thompson
Michael Thompson CMP, is a marketing specialist for
Philadelphia-based software company SAP America Inc. He handles the
logistics for all of SAP’s major events, which means grabbing up
every available guest room for the 10,000 people who attend the
SAPPHIRE users convention, selecting cozy accommodations for
comparatively tiny incentive trips and making VIP
arrangements.
If the sky were the limit, how would you like to
be rewarded after a meeting?
As a team, we’d like a day at the spa. It’s always a tough week;
it would be a nice way to know you’ve done a great job.
What was your first job?
Working at the local gas station in East Orange, N.J. Later I
worked as the road manager for a recording artist called Ten City,
who specialized in house/dance music.
What did you study in college?
Architecture. [The problem-solving] has been very helpful, because
I’ve been able to put things together in different ways and know
there’s more than one solution.
If you could build any structure, what would you
build?
Libraries and universities, places where people could come to
learn and think. I’d also build an occasional summer home someplace
in the islands, like Bermuda.
What do you like least about
traveling?
Small planes, because they’re not big.
What song would make a good meeting- planning
anthem?
“Will It Go Round in Circles?” by Billy Preston.
