Hotels in the Pipeline
New York City’s third largest business district is slated to get an additional 2,000 hotel rooms by 2010 to support the $4 billion, Frank Gehry-designed Atlantic Yards development project, which will include Barclays Center, an 850,000-square-foot sports arena. Opening in 2009 is a 300-room Cambria Suites, a 250-room Holiday Inn and a 325-room Sheraton. Last November, the MarriottÐBrooklyn Bridge added 280 rooms, for a total of 600.
Tampa, Fla.
Luxury Influx
It has 21,000 hotel rooms already, but this West Coast city is poised for an influx of posh properties. The 255-room West Tampa Bay, set to open at year’s end, will feature 7,000 square feet of meeting space. A 225-room Waldorf=Astoria, with 38,000 square feet of meeting space, will open in 2009. The 269-room Ritz-Carlton, Tampa Bay, offering 30,000 square feet of meeting space and a 15,000-square-foot spa, is slated to open in 2011.

square feet. Key changes: a new Club Lounge, a
restaurant seating 140 and sleep-promoting amenities in guest
rooms.

Renovations completed: April.
Rooms: 136. Meeting space: 9,000
square feet. Key changes: 32-inch TVs and iPod
docking stations in guest rooms, a bamboo garden and upgraded pool
areas.

FL, Key Largo
Hotel: Hilton Key
Largo Beach Resort (formerly the Key Largo Grande Resort &
Beach Club). Renovations completed: April.
Price tag: $12 million. Rooms:
200. Meeting space: 17,000 square feet.
Key changes: Meeting facilities now include the
4,200-square-foot Bay View Ballroom; all guest rooms and the lobby
were upgraded.
MA, Boston
Hotel: Boston Marriott
Long Wharf. Renovations completed: April.
Price tag: $16 million. Rooms:
412. Meeting space: 10,825 square feet.
Key changes: a redesign of the 8,200-square-foot
ballroom, the addition of 10 new guest rooms with upgrades to
existing rooms, and wireless Internet available throughout the
property.
NJ, Newark
Hotel: Hilton Newark

Price tag: $9 million. Rooms:
378. Meeting space: 11,000 square feet.
Key changes: a facelift to guest rooms, meeting
facilities, the fitness room, the lobby and restaurants.
NV, Laughlin
Hotel: Aquarius Casino
Resort. Renovations completed: April.
Price tag: $20 million. Rooms:
1,907. Meeting space: 30,000 square feet.
Key changes: 300 guest rooms remodeled with new
furniture, linens, artwork and carpeting.
TX, Rockwall

Harbor. Opened: April. Rooms:
231. Meeting space: 25,000 square feet.
