Adding Hotel Rooms
There are 38 proposed new hotel builds in the works that will add some 2,500 rooms to the city’s inventory. Among them: the 220-room Westin Beale Street, with nine meeting rooms, slated to open by year’s end; and the 240-room Hyatt Regency, with 22,500 square feet of meeting space, to break ground next year and open in 2010.
CA, San Diego
Hotel: Hard Rock Hotel
San Diego. Opening: Fall 2007.
Rooms: 420. Meeting space: 40,000
square feet. Key features: Meeting rooms include
an 8,700-square-foot rooftop garden, a 600-square-foot ballroom,
and a 750-square-foot glass-enclosed boardroom. Additional
amenities: a lobby lounge, a rooftop pool and a fitness
club.
CA, San Francisco
Hotel: Hotel Tomo.
Reopened: June. Rooms: 125.
Meeting space: 3,000 square feet. Key
changes: The hotel’s decor, guest rooms and meeting space
have been completely redesigned. New event space includes two
gaming suites, two boardrooms and two outdoor pavilions.
IN, French Lick
Hotel: West Baden
Springs Hotel. Reopened: May. Price
tag: $383 million, which includes renovation of nearby
French Lick Resort Casino. Rooms: 246.
Meeting space: 40,000 square feet. Key
features: Finally open again after closing in 1932, the
revamped property features a 12,000-square-foot indoor pool, an
8,000-square-foot spa, a fitness center, a fine-dining restaurant
and five retail outlets.
KY, Lexington
Hotel: The Griffin
Gate Marriott Resort. Renovations completed: June.
Price tag: $1.7 million. Rooms:
388. Meeting space: 21,000 square feet.
Key changes: The hotel now features a
7,000-square-foot, full-service spa, as well as two new meeting
rooms, a restaurant and a fully equipped fitness center.
LA, New Orleans
Hotel: Hilton New
Orleans St. Charles Avenue. Opened: June.
Rooms: 250. Meeting space: 15,000
square feet. Key features: The hotel maintains the
building’s original 1920s architecture and also features a new
Skyview Terrace on the 18th floor.
NM, Santa Ana Pueblo
Hotel: Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa.
Renovations completed: June.
Rooms: 350. Meeting space: 50,000
square feet. Key changes: The hotel added a
12,000-square-foot, open-air garden ballroom built to resemble an
ancient adobe ruin; it includes a 7,500-square-foot lawn and
garden, and a 700-square-foot amphitheater.
NY, New York City
Hotel: New York Palace
Hotel. Renovations completed: June. Price
tag: $12 million. Rooms: 893.
Meeting space: 22,000 square feet. Key
changes: The Mansion Rooms, which occupy the fourth and
fifth floors of the hotel’s Villard Mansion, now comprise 24
meeting rooms, a spa and a fitness center.
TX, Corpus Christi
Hotel: Omni Corpus
Christi Hotel Marina Tower. Renovations completed:
May. Price tag: $5 million.
Rooms: 821. Meeting space: 50,000
square feet. Key changes: The revamp enhanced all
guest rooms and 38,000 square feet of the property’s meeting
space.
TX, Laredo
Hotel: La Posada
Hotel. Renovations completed: June. Price
tag: $15 million. Rooms: 206.
Meeting space: 15,000 square feet. Key
changes: While the hotel’s original 1916 design has
remained intact, a new business center, two renovated swimming
pools and a new fitness center have been added.
