Scarlett Hotel Group and IHG Hotels & Resorts have announced the start of construction on the 391-room InterContinental San Antonio. With an investment of $158 million, the former Wyndham hotel will be transformed into a luxury property with 40,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel is expected to open in late 2024.
“It’s an honor to bring a storied luxury hotel brand like InterContinental Hotels & Resorts to the city of San Antonio,” said Zio Pekovic, principal and cofounder of SHG. “We can’t wait for the public and convention planners to experience the incredible space and amenities that this property will add to the community.”
Originally opened as an office building in 1958, the 21-story building features a rooftop pool with downtown views, as well as direct access to the River Walk and a river-taxi landing area.
The InterContinental San Antonio will feature a signature restaurant and bar experiences. A new rooftop design will maximize the outdoor space, aiming for a feeling of openness.
Plans call for an array of flexible indoor spaces that will allow small groups and meetings to take place almost anywhere on the property, and coworking spaces by day will transform into private dining spaces at night. Glass exposures in meeting rooms will be made with electrochromic glass, also known as smart or dynamic glass, which will help groups control backlighting and regulate the natural light.
