Marriott's Autograph Collection Adds Third Madrid Hotel

A historic building on Madrid's world-famous Gran Vía is now a boutique, adults-only hotel, according to Marriott International, which yesterday announced the new hotel's membership in the Autograph Collection, its portfolio of more than 110 independent, one-of-a-kind hotels.

The new hotel, Hotel Circulo Gran Vía, is the former home of Madrid's Merchants and Industrialist's Circle, a gentleman's club. Built in the 1920s, it also was a meeting place for the city's well-known literary society, the Bilis Club.

Having undergone a multi-million euro renovation, the neo-classical building now boasts 71 guest rooms displaying the contents of "Memories of Gran Vía" -- a photographic art exhibition comprising 175 pictures of historic Madrid -- as well as a picturesque terrace, a fitness center, an onsite restaurant, two bars, and three meeting spaces totaling 990 square feet.

Also onsite is Casino Gran Vía, one of Madrid's best-known casinos.

"We are delighted to bring new life to this iconic building in the heart of Madrid," said John Licence, Marriott's European vice president of premium and select brands. "With its grand architecture and carefully curated design that nods to the building's rich history, Hotel Círculo Gran Vía, Autograph Collection evokes the spirit and heritage of this captivating city and embodies our 'Exactly Like Nothing Else' brand philosophy perfectly."

Hotel Circulo Gran Vía is the Autograph Collection's third hotel in Madrid, joining Hotel Palacio del Retiro and Hotel Santo Mauro.
