Penn National Gaming Proposes Casino for Western Massachusetts

Penn National Gaming is proposing to build the $807 million Hollywood Casino Springfield in the western Massachusetts city's downtown. The company has partnered on the project with Peter Picknelly, CEO of Springfield-based Peter Pan Bus Lines, to construct its new facility on 13.4 acres of land in the north end of the city. Construction would depend on getting one of three casino licenses to be awarded by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, which said in September that the first license would be announced no later than February 2014. The proposed property would have a 300,000-square-foot casino; a hotel with 300 to 500 guest rooms and a spa; food-and-beverage options including fine dining, casual dining, a buffet, a sports bar and a food court; a nightclub; parking for more than 4,000 vehicles, and 30,000 to 45,000 square-feet of meeting space.
