Virginia Taxes to Increase July 1

Effective July 1, a new 2 percent transient occupancy tax will be imposed in Northern Virginia. Affected areas include Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, Manassas Park and the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudon and Prince William. The sales tax also will increase July 1; in Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads, total state and local tax will rise to 6 percent, while elsewhere throughout the state, the sales tax will increase to 5.3 percent.
