A Planner’s State of Mind

One of the most rewarding things about being an event planner is the opportunity to travel and explore new places as part of your work. But it's also a serious responsibility__to make sure the destination you choose has all of the accommodations and opportunities necessary to provide a memorable experience for your attendees. And finding the right combination of affordability, accessibility, hotel and venue availability and, of course, the appeal of the setting, isn't exactly easy.

So we've narrowed the search just a little bit for you: to five states and a few of their cities that we think best achieve that delicate balance, both in and outside of the boardroom.

1. Arizona

Home to some of America's most inviting cities for corporate groups, this state offers a lovely mix of metropolitan amenities and outdoor activity. In Phoenix, you'll find a cosmopolitan paradise packed with things to do, from sporting events and museum visits to rounds of golf at some of the area's award-wining courses. In Scottsdale, you'll discover an enchanting blend of resort-style luxury and Southwestern charm. And just a little farther south is Tucson, a mid-sized city that's brimming with natural beauty to be explored.

Each of these destinations has a little something different to offer travelers, but they all have this in common: they're excellent spots to kick back and relax... and also to get some work done. And as a bonus, the state boasts over 80 public and private airports, so your attendees will be always be close in proximity to an easy passage in and out of state.

2. Nevada

It's likely no surprise that this state makes our list. The hotel and venue options available in Las Vegas are practically infinite, and include some of the largest and most luxurious spaces in the country. And this city may be the most tourism-dependent city in the nation, which means that the people there know a thing or two about hosting. You'll find unparalleled planning support and flexibility there, and no shortage of things to do. Activities range from exploring the canyons and enjoying a round of desert golf, to dining in world-class restaurants, gambling, or catching a show on the Strip. And with the airport only miles away from that bustling city center, travel is never part of the planning hassle.

3. Florida

The Sunshine State is an easy sell to higher-ups and attendees alike because a trip to this part of the country truly feels like a vacation. No matter where you go, the weather will be lovely at any time of the year, but when it's time to get specific and select a destination, think Orlando.

Home to a variety of theme parks and one of the largest convention centers in the world, this city's economy relies heavily on tourism, so you'll find superb service wherever you go. And last year, it was awarded the number 2 spot on Cvent's list of Top 50 Meeting Destinations in the United States.

4. California

When it comes to abundance and diversity of venues, Los Angeles may be the closest you'll get to Las Vegas. This southern metropolis is internationally renowned for its iconic arts, fashion, and culinary culture, and needless to say, there's no shortage of things to do or places to be. If L.A. doesn't fit the bill for you and your team, try Palm Desert for more relaxed retreat. The state's famed Coachella Valley is the perfect setting to enjoy the sunshine all year round, whether it's at a pool beneath the palm trees or out on the region's pristine golf courses.

5. Texas

From the panhandle plains and the Gulf Coast to Big Bend and the hill country, Texas has incredibly varied landscape to explore, and the cities are no less diverse. In Houston, you'll find the Museum of Fine Arts and NASA's Johnson Space Center, and in Austin, an established music scene. In San Antonio, you'll find the world-famous River Walk, a lovely setting for networking and entertaining. And because it's home to more Fortune 500 and 1,000 companies than any other state, you can count on Texas to accommodate all of your meeting needs.

If you're hoping to really go above and beyond for your next event, and maybe inspire a higher rate of attendance than usual, consider taking your team south of the border. A trip to a place like Cancun__yet another excellent destination for meetings and conventions__would surely leave a lasting impression on your guests.

So when the time comes to book your next event, find a place that your attendees can get excited about. A place that's equipped with everything necessary to make your unique event a perfect 10.
